Requirements and Conditions

We regularly offer small bioinformatics projects suitable for Master's theses and research internships. Projects typically involve the analysis of high-throughput molecular data and require a strong interest in computational biology and reproducible research.

Academic requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled at a university.
  • Master's thesis projects must be formally recognized as part of the applicant's degree program.
  • Internships must be a mandatory component of the applicant's current university program. Unfortunately, we cannot host voluntary internships outside a degree program.
  • A background in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, life sciences, medicine, or a related discipline is expected.

Technical requirements

  • Basic R skills are required. Most projects involve substantial data analysis in R/Bioconductor.
  • Basic familiarity with Linux and command-line tools is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with genomics, transcriptomics, NGS data analysis, statistics, or programming is an advantage.
  • We expect students to work reproducibly and to document their analyses and code.

Practical and financial conditions

  • We cannot provide financial support, stipends, or salaries for internships or Master's thesis projects.
  • We cannot provide accommodation in Munich.
  • International applicants are welcome provided that the academic and administrative requirements above are fulfilled.
  • International students should investigate suitable scholarships or mobility programs to cover travel and living expenses in Munich.
